Everything you need to know about...Huddersfield Giants

Friday's Rivals Round fixtures conclude with Leeds Rhinos taking on Huddersfield Giants at AMT Headingley, kick off 5.30pm.
The Rhinos come back to home territory after a win over Salford, whilst the Giants look to overcome injuries across the field to win their first game of the Betfred Super League season.
Here's everything you need to know about our opposition, Huddersfield Giants:
Story of the 2025 season
A tough start to the Betfred Super League campaign has seen Huddersfield deal with what head coach Luke Robinson has described as an "epidemic" of injuries.
Last weekend’s 38-18 home defeat to Catalans Dragons at the John Smith’s Stadium marked the Giants’ eighth straight loss in all competitions since their opening Challenge Cup win over Championship side Hunslet. Frustratingly for the Giants camp, Huddersfield have been able to put themselves in a strong position to compete for wins as they led at half time against Warrington, Leigh, Hull FC and Wigan early in the season, only to lose their grip in the second 40 minutes to sit bottom of the table for the first time since the start of the 2019 season.
Back in round three, the boot of Aidan Sezer proved to be the difference as Jon Cartwright’s side clawed back from 10-4 down to topple the claret and golds 11-10, before the Giants couldn’t contain Wigan, who scored six tries on their return from Las Vegas.
Struggles on the field have been compounded by an injury crisis that shows no sign of letting up. Head coach Robinson has also been forced into squad changes each week as senior half backs Adam Clune and Tui Lolohea have both been sidelined with long-term injuries alongside forwards Matty English, George King, Harry Rushton and Fenton Rogers, who is the latest casualty after the Dragons clash. Quick work behind the scenes brought Niall Evalds and Bill Leyland in on loan from Hull KR to try and keep the Giants competitive, but both players played limited minutes on their debuts as Evalds suffered a broken foot against Salford and Leyland left last week’s game following a head clash.

There have been a few bright sparks for the Giants in 2025, notably talented half-back George Flanagan Jnr, who signed a new deal last week to remain at the club. The half back has stepped up in the absence of the senior Clune and Lolohea and has only missed the opening Super League game against Warrington so far in 2025. Jack Billington has also been secured on a new extension to keep the homegrown talent in Giants colours for years to come, plus Adam Swift has bounced back strongly from an injury-plagued 2024 season too to lead the side in tries with six in all competitions.
With a Magic Weekend date against Hull FC around the corner, the Giants hope to channel performances from years gone by against the Rhinos. Today’s fixture produced some moments of brilliance from both teams, including Luke Gale’s last gasp drop goal in 2020 to Huddersfield’s comeback win at AMT Headingley last time out. Fans will have to see what the next chapter holds at AMT Headingley this afternoon.
