NEXT UP | Round Two vs Salford Red Devils

Round two sees Leeds Rhinos make the first of two trips to face Salford Red Devils at Salford Stadium on Saturday 22nd February, kick off 3pm.

Ahead of our first away trip of the year, here's your match preview:

Opposition Overview

In Paul Rowley's final season as head coach before moving into the Sporting Directors role in 2026, Salford Red Devils hope for another top six finish in the Betfred Super League table, after rising from the brink of the Play Offs to finish in fourth place by round 27 in 2024. Since Rowley's arrival in 2022, the club has finished in the Play Off spots in two of the last three seasons (particularly losing out to Leigh in last year's eliminator), and with a largely unchanged squad from last year, they look to compete again in 2025.

Round one saw the club field a reserves squad for their opening game against St Helens, due to the restrictions of the sustainability cap remaining in place for their round one match. The change of ownership is still under the approval process with the Rugby Football League, but the hopes are that the club's first team stars will be in action for the visit of the Rhinos.

Rhinos fans will be familiar with Nene Macdonald, Brad Singleton, Kallum Watkins, Jack Ormondroyd and Justin Sangare from their efforts in blue and amber in recent years; Sangare made the move to the Red Devils during the off season as one of five new signings.

Marc Sneyd remains the club's biggest threat at half back, with a clinical kicking boot, and Ryan Brierley's pace is one to watch at full back. They are joined by Jayden Nikorima in the former Catalans' players' first full season with the club after joining midway through 2024 as well as rising star Kai Morgan and Joe Mellor, who eight try in 16 games against Leeds during his career.

Esan Marsters and Chris Hill swapped Huddersfield for the Red Devils this season and Marsters made sure to open his try scoring account quickly with a try against Midlands Hurricanes in the Betfred Challenge Cup. Hill is yet to make his Salford debut but is an important pickup so the next generation of Salford players, such as breakout star Loghan Lewis, can learn more about the game from the prop, who has 41 international caps and two Challenge Cup winners medals.
