Landmark day for Connor on debut

Jake Connor had a debut to remember in the Rhinos 92-0 win over Wests Warriors at AMT Headingley as the England international produced a record breaking performance. 

Connor became the 1,500th player to play for Leeds since the inaugural Northern Union game in 1895 as he started at full back in the Betfred Challenge Cup third round clash. 

Connor scored a first half try and kicked fourteen out of sixteen attempts at goal for a total of 32 points. The previous record for most points on debut was held by Ashley Gibson who scored a hat trick and five goals against Leigh in 2005 for a total of 22 points. He became only the seventh player in the history of the club to score a hat trick on debut. 

16 year old John Holmes made probably the finest debut of any Leeds players when he scored a try and 10 goals in a Lazenby Cup victory over Hunslet in August 1968. 

However, Connor's total fell short of the club record for most points by an individual player for Leeds in the Challenge Cup which is still held by Iestyn Harris, who scored 38 points in the 106-10 win over Swinton in 2001. 

Chris Thorman, who was at Saturday's game supporting his brother Neil who was playing was Wests Warriors, holds the record for most points in a Challenge Cup game in the history of the game's oldest competition. He scored 54 points for York City Knights in 2011, when they defeated Northumbria University. Thorman scored four tries and 19 goals to beat by a single point the total of George "Tich" West, who scored 11 tries and 10 goals against the Cumbrian amateur team Brookland Rovers in 1905.
