2024 in Review: October to December

As we prepare to wave goodbye to 2024 and welcome in 2025, we're running back all the big events that took place around the club over the last twelve months.
From Grand Final triumphs to MND Challenges, here is a recap of October to December:
OCTOBER
Although most Rhinos teams had finished their seasons by October, Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair made sure the club finished the year on a high as they secured Grand Final glory in a 52-32 win over Halifax Panthers. The Wheels of Steel winner Josh Butler had a game to remember as he led the side with three tries, plus Nathan Collins scored two tries and kicked eight goals to help the Rhinos lift their first Grand Final trophy in three years. Player of the season and captain Jodie Boyd-Ward, Tom Halliwell, and Nathan Mulhall also got over for tries.
With the Super League season wrapped up, the Rhinos put plans for 2025 into motion. Paul Momirovski, Leon Ruan, Justin Sangare and Mickael Goudemand all joined James Donaldson, Rhyse Martin, Luis Roberts, Corey Johnson, David Fusitu'a and Kieran Hudson in exiting the club to make way for four new arrivals. Samoan prop Keenan Palasia and North Devils forward Cooper Jenkins were unveiled on the same day as Arthur added more power to his forward pack, plus Jake Connor made his highly anticipated move from Huddersfield.
Saving one of the best until last, Parramatta and Fijian flyer Maika Sivo gave Rhinos fans an early present as he joined back up with his former coach at Leeds.
We can't wait to see Maika Sivo playing for the Rhinos at AMT Headingley next season - you can catch our new signing in action this morning when Fiji take on Cook Island live on Sky Sports Mix from 9am

There was movement in the Women's team too as quartet Sophie Robinson, Beth Lockwood, Hanna Butcher and Tara Moxon all confirmed they would be leaving the club; Butcher in particular became the first player to get to 100 appearances for the club during the 2024 season.
More history was made in October as Jill Spencer became the club's first female president too.
As the Autumn internationals approached, Harry Newman earned a place in Shaun Wane's squad and featured in the first of two tests against Samoa, which was won 34-18 by England. Ahead of the England Women's team playing Wales in November, Keara Bennett, Amy Hardcastle, Shona Hoyle, Izzy Northrop and Bella Sykes were named in Stuart Barrow's provisional squad.
NOVEMBER
November saw the return of international Rugby League to AMT Headingley at the start of the month as England's Men and Women's teams took to the field. Both sides recorded wins, starting with an 82-0 win for the Women against Wales before the Men defeated Samoa 34-16 in the second and final match. Newman was named again in Wane's side for a second time, plus Keara Bennett, Izzy Northrop, Bella Sykes, Shona Hoyle and Amy Hardcastle appeared for the Women's team.
Shortly after, Hardcastle, Hoyle and Caitlin Casey departed the Rhinos Women's side to join St Helens, but there were more incomings on the Men's side of the club; Tom Nicholson-Watton signing a three year deal to stay at the club and Jamie Langley arrived as a new assistant coach alongside Brad Arthur.
The highlight of November though was the cross-code 745 game at AMT Headingley, which saw legends of both Rugby League and Rugby Union come together to raise money and awareness for MND.

DECEMBER
The final month of 2024 kicked off in similar fashion to the last five years; with a Kevin Sinfield MND Challenge!
This year's Running Home For Christmas theme saw Kevin start in Gloucester before running seven ultramarathons in seven days around Bristol, Belfast, Dubline, Glasgow, Hull, Northampton, Leicester, Manchester and finally his home in Saddleworth all to support the fight against MND.
Once again, the support for the whole 7 in 7 team was huge out on the route, plus the team hit the £1 million pound mark again.

To close out the year, the Rhinos brought home the Wetherby Whaler Festive Challenge Trophy as they edged Wakefield 18-16 on Boxing Day.
Jake Connor led the scoring with two tries in the first half, but Leeds had to weather a comeback before George Brown sealed the win with his try five minutes from time.
