AMT Headingley continues history of hosting international fixtures

Saturday afternoon sees England's Men's and Women's sides return to AMT Headingley for a second consecutive year as the stadium adds to it's history of hosting international fixtures when Shaun Wane's side takes on Samoa in the second test of the ABK Beers International Series, and Stu Barrow's Women's side clash with Wales.

It is only Samoa's second ever visit to AMT Headingley after they clashed with Tonga in an 18-10 defeat, whilst Wales Women return for their second visit in as many years.

International rugby at AMT Headingley actually dates back to before the creation of the Northern Union in 1895. Leeds also hosted the twelfth Calcutta Cup between England and Scotland in 1893 with the visitors winning two drop goals to nil in front of over 30,000. This was 16 years before the RFU opened Twickenham, which became England Rugby Union's permanent home.
