Rhinos trio named in Ireland squad for Autumn International

James McDonnell of Ireland is tackled by Joe Brown of Jamaica during Rugby League World Cup 2021 Pool C match between Jamaica and Ireland

Ireland Rugby League Head Coach Ged Corcoran has named his long-haul squad for the upcoming Autumn International against Scotland at Gateshead International Stadium on Sunday 27th October.

The game is set to be a big occasion as it is the first international rugby league fixture in the North East since the Rugby League World Cup, when Fiji and Scotland went head to head at Kingston Park. The match will also be the first international fixture to take place at Gateshead International Stadium in over two decades, making it a truly special occasion for fans.

The 50-player squad is a mix of experience and fresh talent, including recognition for some of our standout Pathways players from the U16s, U19s, and A sides, who have excelled in this year's program. 14 players have been retained from the 24-man squad that featured in the World Cup in 2022, including Rhinos pair James Bentley and James McDonnell. Bentley has been capped eight times for Ireland since 2018, whilst McDonnell made his Ireland debut in a try scoring performance against Jamaica.

Rising star forward Tom Nicholson-Watton could also be in contention to make his international debut, after an excellent season at the Rhinos.

The squad will be trimmed down to 24 players next ahead of the game.
