Rhinos and Valkyrie clash for place in Betfred Women's Super League Grand Final
As the finale of the Betfred Women's Super League season approaches, Leeds Rhinos and York Valkyrie face off at AMT Headingley this Sunday, kick off 5pm, for a place in this year's Grand Final.
The Rhinos and Valkyrie meet in a rematch of last year's Grand Final as both sides look to set up a clash against either St Helens or Wigan, who go head to head in the other semi final. Having both won one game against each other over the course of the regular season, the third head to head clash between the clubs couldn't come at a more important time as their seasons are on the line.
Opposition Overview
20 days after they last arrived at AMT Headingley, Lindsay Anfield's York Valkyrie side are one win away from returning to the Grand Final as they look to retain their title. The team are having to do it tough after star player Tara-Jane Stanley's season was cut short through injury, but nevertheless, the Valkyrie's recent form heading into this year's semi finals is one of the best in the competition.
Since suffering back to back losses to Wigan and St Helens in July, York bounced back in style to put themselves in contention to host a semi final. They went on a five game winning streak, defeating Warrrington, Huddersfield and Featherstone, but most notably they recorded wins over top four competitors Leeds and Wigan as the race for final positions in the Betfred Women's Super League table went down to the last round. Last time out, York made light work of Featherstone in a 32-6 results, although it wasn't a score line big enough to topple Leeds' more superior points difference. Canadian international Megan Pakulis led the try scoring with two against the Rovers, plus Tamzin Renouf, Rhiannion Marshall, Lauren Exley and Izzy Brennan also crossed the try line.
13 members of last year's Grand Final winning side remain at the Valkyrie, but it is some of the squad's newer faces that fans need to watch out for on Sunday. Former Saints winger Eboni Partington has been lethal as the side's top try scorer as she has crossed for 23 tries in 2024, whilst Remi Wilton has stepped up into the hooking role left by captain Sinead Peach. England internationals Renouf, Lacey Owen, Liv Wood and Georgie Hetherington provide threats across the field too. Renouf and Owen have previous experience at this stage of the competition as well having reached the Grand Final in the 2019 season.

Semi Final Form
Since they joined the Betfred Women's Super League in 2018, Leeds Rhinos have competed and won every semi final match they've played in as the side have reached five straight Grand Finals. Having faced St Helens in their last two semi final matchups, Sunday is the first time since 2021 that the Rhinos have taken on York for a place in the final; Sophie Nuttall led the scoring with two in a 22-18 victory. The only other side except St Helens that Leeds have played at this stage of the competition was Castleford in 2018.
York's first taste of the semi final stage came in that 22-18 defeat to Leeds, but since then the Valkyrie have recorded back to back wins over Wigan to ensure they reached the Grand Final. Only one of those has been converted into a trophy, which was last year's win over the Rhinos.
