Next Up: Hull KR
The final round before the 2024 Betfred Super League Play Offs sees Leeds Rhinos play their last regular season fixture against Hull KR on Friday night at Sewell Group Craven Park, kick off 8pm.
Here's a preview ahead of the fixture:
Our opposition
Although it would take a slip up from Wigan in their round 27 game, Hull KR's hopes of a League Leaders' Shield are not over just yet as Willie Peter's side remain two points behind the Warriors in the league standings.
Shield or not after this week's game, 2024 will still go down as historic for the club already as they've amassed more wins and league points than ever before in a Super League campaign. Off the back of coming within a point of Challenge Cup success in 2023, Peters has taken his team up a level again as the recruitment of experienced stars Peta Hiku, Tyrone May and Joe Burgess has added to youthful talents, led by half back Mikey Lewis. The half back leads the side in tries and try assists, and in terms of competition as a whole, his 17 tries sit third behind Warrington's Matt Dufty and Wigan's Liam Marshall.
After a strong start to the season saw the Robins lose only three times in their opening ten Super League games, Hull KR found a run of form from mid-May as they won twelve out of thirteen games, including a 20-12 win over Leeds at AMT Headingley. Wigan brought an end to that run in round 25 as they came back to record a 24-20 result over Peters' side, but they returned to winning ways in round 26 with a resounding victory over Leigh on the road.
Although the Rhinos lost against Hull KR back in round two at Sewell Group Craven Park, Leeds still lead Friday's opponents with nine total Super League wins on the road against the Robins, compared to the home side's seven.
