Valkyrie up next for Rhinos Women this Sunday

Although the top four places of the Betfred Women's Super League table are locked up with three games to go before the semi finals, final positionings for Leeds Rhinos and York Valkyrie are still to be decided as the two sides clash at AMT Headingley on Sunday 1st September, kick off 12pm.

In a rematch of last year's Grand Final, the Rhinos can close the gap at the top of the league table with a second win over the Valkyrie this year, having won 16-10 back in May, whilst Lindsay Anfield's York side can move level on points with Leeds with a win on the road.

Opposition Preview

Coming into this campaign as reigning Grand Final champions for the first time, York Valkyrie are still in contention to retain their crown but face tough competition from Leeds, St Helens and Wigan.

The Valkyrie have had to promote talents from it's Academy system this season, as well as bring in extra signings, after losing some of their 2023 stars for large periods of the campaign. Tamzin Renouf, Carrie Roberts, Kelsey Gentles, Sade Rihari and Olivia Gale have all had long spells on the sidelines, as well as Tara-Jane Stanley who missed wins over Warrington and Huddersfield mid-season, but the club acted fast to bring reinforcements into the fold. Former Canberra Raiders captain Remi Wilton made the switch from Rugby Union back to Rugby League to provide hooker options in the absence of club captain Sinead Peach, plus Canadian international Megan Pakulis, upcoming French star Mahault Pommier, Lucy Eastwood and Manuqalo Komaitai have also arrived at the LNER Community Stadium to boost the club's chances of a Grand Final return.

Looking at their league form this year, York opened their year with a tight win over St Helens, before beating Barrow by 20 points a year later, but Leeds got their revenge for losing out in the Grand Final with a 16-10 triumph in round three. After losing to Saints in the Challenge Cup semi finals, the side went on a four game winning run against Huddersfield, Warrington, Barrow again and Featherstone to move up to second, but back to back defeats at the hands of Wigan and the Red Vee dropped the Valkyrie down to fourth with five games to go.

They arrive at AMT Headingley for the rematch with Leeds off the back of big wins against the Wolves and Giants, but face a tough fixture against Wigan next week which could decide league positioning for both sides heading into the semi finals later in September.

Round 11 Highlights

Leeds got the job done at AMT Headingley last time out as they defeated Wigan Warriors 28-8, thanks to two tries from Bethan Dainton and Shona Hoyle.
