Rhinos Reserves close out season against Wakefield this Friday

The Reserves season comes to an end for Leeds Rhinos on Friday night as Tony Smith's side close out the campaign against Wakefield Trinity at AMT Headingley, kick off 5.30pm.

Having lost their last two matches, the Rhinos hope to finish on a high in front of a home crowd on their final outing of the year. Looking back to the start of March, Smith's side have had mixed results over the course of the season, opening with a 34-24 loss to Leigh before bouncing back to beat St Helens 30-22 in one of the best performances of the campaign. Despite Warrington and Hull KR taking away wins from Leeds during April, Leeds responded by charging up the table to third place, thanks to big wins against London, Bradford and Castleford.

A 20-12 home win over Salford came after a 26-18 loss to Hull FC, before a high scoring affair against Wigan last time out saw the Rhinos salvage points on the scoreboard after the Warriors ran out to a 40-6 lead in the second half.

Since the Reserves grade returned in 2022, the Rhinos managed to get their first win over Wakefield last year on the road at the DIY Kitchens Stadium. Luke Hooley led the scoring on that day as the full back scored two tries and kicked six goals in a 50-14 result for the Rhinos, after Trinity claimed a 34-16 win at AMT Headingley in 2022.

Wakefield are also on five wins this year, four of which have come in their last four matches.

Danny Kirkmond's side got off to a tough start as they suffered consecutive defeats against Warrington, St Helens, Huddersfield, Salford and Hull KR, but managed to get back to winning ways against Hull FC as Will Brough kicked his side to a 24-22 result. After losing the derby clash against Castleford, Trinity have been unstoppable since then as they've taken down London, Bradford, Leigh and reigning Reserves champions Wigan in their recent four games. They head to AMT Headingley knowing a win puts them above the Rhinos and into a potential fifth place finish, depending on other results.
