Next Up: Magic Weekend

Magic Weekend is here for 2024 as all twelve Betfred Super League teams land at the home of Leeds United, Elland Road, over Saturday and Sunday.

This year, there is more on the line than ever before as teams continue their battle at both ends of the Super League table. Leeds, who take on their eighth different team at the event, need two points to keep up the fight for the top six, whilst Warrington continue their fight for a League Leaders' title alongside Wigan and Hull KR.

Here's a preview ahead of the fixture:

Our opposition

Saturday's meeting is the third head to head clash between Leeds and Warrington this season; the Wolves taking wins away from both AMT Headingley in round 7 and the Halliwell Jones in round 17. Five weeks after they beat the Rhinos on home soil, Sam Burgess' side find themselves heading back to Leeds for Magic Weekend, having won three of their last five Magic outings.

The Wolves hit the top of the league standings as a run of five wins concluded with a 40-4 outing against Wigan Warriors in round 20 as two tries from Matty Ashton and Aaron Lindop led Burgess' side to their most convincing win of the campaign. They were unable to follow the win up a week later as Hull KR stole first place on the road, but an away win against London gave the Wolves a chance to close in on the Robins and Warriors.

Each game is crucial from hereon in, starting with a Magic clash with the Rhinos before away games against Castleford and Leigh could prove tricky for the Wire. St Helens and London are the only teams to play at the Halliwell Jones Stadium as the regular season concludes, plus there is also a trip to Huddersfield to face the Giants in their penultimate game.

Looking back at their previous Magic form, the Wolves have won nine, lost six and drawn once since their first outing as part of the inaugural event in 2007. Starting with a win over Salford, they have gone on to face eight different teams, including Wigan, who they faced four times between 2017 and 2021, as well as St Helens, Salford, Huddersfield, Hull FC, Hull KR, Catalans, Widnes, Castleford. Defeat to Hull FC in last year's event was the first time since 2018 that the side had lost a Magic clash, having accumulated two wins against Wigan in 2019 and 2021, plus a 36-10 result against Catalans in 2022.
