Loan Watch: Young Rhinos involved in Super League and Championship action

Last weekend saw Rhinos quartet Leon Ruan, Corey Johnson, Jack Smith and Ben Littlewood head out on loan to gain extra minutes away from the first team in both the Betfred Super League and Betfred Championship.

Find out more:

Leon Ruan - Hull FC

After making the move to join Simon Grix's Hull FC side for the remainder of the season on loan, Leon Ruan got his first opportunity to feature off the bench for the black and whites against St Helens on Saturday.

A disappointing outing for Hull saw Saints take a 46-6 win away from the MKM Stadium, but the home side made the Red Vee work for their first half lead with the score at 10-0. Three tries before the hour mark from Lewis Dodd, Daryl Clark and Matt Whitley turned the game in favour of the visitors though, before two Jake Burns tries and one from Agnatius Paasi sealed the win; Jack Walker scored late for the black and whites.

Ruan played 43 minutes overall, during which he carried six times and made 39 metres - the most by a Hull sub on the day. Defensively he made 15 tackles. He will be aiming to be back in action on Sunday as Hull take on Leigh at Leigh Sports Village.

Corey Johnson & Ben Littlewood - Halifax Panthers

With eight rounds to go in the Betfred Championship season, Halifax Panthers kept up their fight to climb the league table as they fought out a 38-18 win over York RLFC Knights on Sunday.

Rhinos pair Corey Johnson and Ben Littlewood returned to play for the Panthers having featured for Liam Finn's side earlier this season, and both came off the bench to support the win.

The Knights made a quick start with two tries, but Halifax responded to steer the game back in their favour thanks to tries from James Woodburn-Hall and Ben Crooks. The points continued to flow throughout the first half as the Panthers led 22-14 into the break, before tries from Charlie Graham, Joe Keyes and Louis Jouffret finished off the result for the home side.

Johnson made his seventh appearance for the Panthers this season, and came away from the action with eight carries, 27 tackles and one break assist. Littlewood, who played his third game for Halifax off the bench, played 43 minutes, carried six times and made 25 tackles.

Jack Smith - Bradford Bulls

Centre Jack Smith made his first appearance for Bradford as the Bulls played out a tight 24-24 draw with Barrow Raiders on Sunday too.

Although Eamonn O'Carroll's side ran into a three try lead early doors thanks to tries from Tom Holmes, Jayden Okunbor and Zac Fulton, Barrow had the travelling Bulls fans on the edge of their seats as they responded with two quick tries. Keven Appo and Kieran Gill added tries either side of half time, but again the Raiders mounted a comeback to score three times to steal a draw.

Smith, who has played on dual registration at Halifax alongside playing for the Rhinos Reserves, played the full 80 minutes on the wing and contributed 15 carries and seven tackles.
