Next Up: Salford Red Devils
As the race for the top six heats up, Leeds Rhinos travel to Salford Stadium to take on Salford Red Devils on Saturday 3rd August, kick off 5.30pm.
After taking a win away from the Giants in round 19, the Rhinos look to close the gap to the Red Devils, who sit one place above Brad Arthur's side in the league standings. Two points for Paul Rowley's Salford side would see them edge closer to breaking into the top four.
Here's a preview ahead of the fixture:
Our opposition
Targeting a return to the Play Offs after missing out in 2023, Salford Red Devils enter this round of fixtures level on points with St Helens and Catalans Dragons with 11 wins and seven losses in 2024. With eight games remaining, one final push could see the Red Devils apply pressure higher up the table as Hull KR and Warrington are also both within reach.
This week, they have to fend off a Rhinos side that beat Salford in round one, thanks to two tries from Ash Handley and a late Sam Lisone effort to secure a 22-16 result. Despite the tough start at AMT Headingley, the Red Devils got their campaign underway as they beat Castleford, Hull KR and St Helens before an inconsistent spell saw them hold onto sixth spot. Defeats to Wigan and Castleford either side of a win over Leigh came before the side recorded wins over London, Warrington and London. Although they lost out to Leigh and Wigan during May, Rowley got his side firing once again as they recorded four consecutive wins until the start of July, before losing their last three games in the build up to round 20.
Marc Sneyd has been the key catalyst for Salford as he leads the Man of Steel leaderboard, thanks mostly to his amount of try assists which is the best in Super League. Former Rhino Nene Macdonald has also been a key signing on the opposite wing to Tim Lafai, whilst Deon Cross is having a highlight season with ten tries to his name.
