Rhinos reveal plans to honour Burrow's famous 7 shirt

Leeds Rhinos have revealed that all players at the club who wear the famous number 7 shirt worn by Rob Burrow will have a special reminder of the legendary player when they run out for the Rhinos going forward.

At the agreement of the Burrow family, the club will not retire the number 7 shirt, instead it will continue to be a reminder of the eight time Grand Final winner for generations to come. Starting this weekend when Leeds Rhinos men and women's teams are in action, the number seven on the shirt of Matt Frawley and Caitlin Casey will carry Rob's signature and number 7 logo on the top. This will then be replicated on all academy, reserves and scholarship teams for the mens and women's teams as well as the Rhinos Wheelchair, PDRL and LDSL players.

Commenting on the announcement Leeds Rhinos Head of Media & PR Phil Daly said, "Having spoken to Rob over the years about what he would like us to do with the number 7 squad number, he never wanted us to retire the number. Rob was proud of the heritage of the club, indeed when he won the Harry Sunderland Award in the 2007 Grand Final, he dedicated it to a previous incumbent Jeff Stevenson, who had passed away just before the final.

"Since Rob's passing there have been suggestions from the public about how the club should mark Rob's famous number going forward. However, after discussions with the Burrow family, they agree with Rob's wishes and the number will remain integral to all our teams and inspire the next generation of scrum halves over the years and decades ahead."
