Place in Betfred Women's Challenge Cup Final up for grabs this Sunday

Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors Women meet on Sunday afternoon at the Totally Wicked Stadium for a place in the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup Final, kick off 12.30pm.

Both teams have had straightforward runs through to this stage of the competition and go head to head for a second consecutive year in the semi-finals after Leeds won 16-4 at AMT Headingley in 2023.

Fine out more...

Match Preview

Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors have both started the new year in red-hot form as they are unbeaten in both league and cup competitions.

Lois Forsell and Denis Betts' sides swept all opposition on their way to reach the final four, with the prospect of walking out at Wembley Stadium only 80 minutes away. Leeds fended off Hull KR, Leigh Leopards and Huddersfield Giants in the group stages, before beating Warrington Wolves a 70-10 quarter final win on home turf.

Wigan, on the other hand, had a similar run during their group games. Kicking off with a 68-0 win over Salford Red Devils, the Warriors edged out Barrow Raiders in a tight 20-18 win on the road a week later, but put in two convincing displays against Cardiff Demons in their final group game and the quarter-finals to get back to the semis.

The Women's Challenge Cup is the only major final that the Warriors have yet to compete in, having been knocked out in the semi finals twice by Leeds before (2018 and 2023), as well as the quarter finals by Featherstone Rovers, York Valkyrie and St Helens. They hope that their combined form in the league, which saw them post 102 unanswered points on Huddersfield last weekend, can see them go a step further in 2024 as they take on an old nemesis in Leeds.

The Rhinos, who are two-time winners of the competition in 2018 and 2019, are one of the most experienced outfits in the Challenge Cup as 20 of their players have previously played in Cup semi finals. 18 players have featured in Leeds' semi finals, including captain Hanna Butcher who plays in her sixth consecutive semi final this weekend. Caitlin Beevers and Sophie Robinson also have four appearances, including in the 2018 and 2019 Cup triumphs, whilst Amy Hardcastle played her first major final for Leeds last year but previously reached the final four with St Helens in 2021 and 2022 and Bradford in 2017.

Jasmine Cudjoe (Castleford), Tara Moxon (Wakefield), Grace Field (Castleford and York) and Shona Hoyle (St Helens, Castleford and Bradford) have also played at the penultimate stage of the Cup with their previous clubs too.

After a spotless Cup run so far, the Rhinos transferred their success into the league with big wins over Huddersfield and Warrington on home soil, before claiming a 16-10 revenge win over last year's Grand Final winners York Valkyrie.
