Rhinos Women face Wolves at AMT Headingley this Saturday

After kickstarting their Betfred Women's Super League season in style last Friday night, Leeds Rhinos Women look to continue their winning run in 2024 as they take on Warrington Wolves Women on Saturday at AMT Headingley, KO 12pm.

Having beaten the Wolves in the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup quarter-finals a fortnight ago, Lois Forsell's side look to continue a six-match winning run against Warrington in all competitions on home soil, whilst Armani Sharrock's side will be aiming to build on their opening win of the season with a good performance against last year's Grand Finalists.

Opposition

Warrington's third season in the top tier of the Betfred Women's Super League sees the Wolves look to build on their fifth-place finish in 2023.

The club established its Women's team in November 2018 and had an impressive first campaign in 2019 that saw them top the Championship table with 15 wins from 16 games, and reach the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup. After the Covid break, they were promoted into the Women's Super League for the 2021 season where they finished eighth and competed in the Super League Shield competition, before finishing top of Super League Group 2 in 2022 (when the Super League competition was split into two).

Last season saw the side finish fifth under Lee Westwood, who announced he was stepping down at the end of the campaign, but 2024 sees a new chapter begin as Armani Sharrock moved from captaining the side on the field to leading from the front as head coach.

Sharrock's tenure got off to the perfect start as her side overcame Featherstone Rovers in a 34-28 result - Nicole Barnett scoring late to fend off the chance of a Rovers comeback - but this week's game against the Rhinos will be a test of the Wolves, who lost out 70-0 to Lois Forsell's side in the Challenge Cup earlier this month. They then take on Barrow Raiders and Wigan Warriors during May.

Round One Highlights

The Rhinos made sure they moved straight to the top of the Betfred Women's Super League table with a convincing round one result against Huddersfield Giants last week.

A 66-4 result wowed the crowd at AMT Headingley as Zoe Hornby, Lucy Murray and Evie Cousins led the try scoring with three each, plus Caitlin Beevers announced her return to the side with two tries.
