Rhinos Rewind: Huddersfield Giants

Ahead of Leeds Rhinos and Huddersfield Giants clashing at AMT Headingley on Friday night, we've gone into the archives to pull out a clash for the ages between the two clubs, and a player that represented both the Giants and Rhinos during their careers.

Take a look...

Classic Clash

A record-breaking day at Headingley in 1999 saw the Rhinos post 86 points on Huddersfield Giants as Graham Murray's side extended an unbeaten run of results to 13 games.

The man leading the attack for Leeds was captain Iestyn Harris, who set the record for the most points scored by a Leeds player in a single game as four tries and 13 goals contributed to a total of 42 points. A total of 15 tries saw Paul Sterling cross three times and Marcus St Hilare also grabbed a brace, as well as tries from Anthony Farrell, Francis Cummins, Ryan Sheridan, Martin Masella, Andy Speak and Marvin Golden.

Legend in Focus - Marcus St Hilaire

Born and raised in Huddersfield, Marcus ‘Junior' St Hilaire left his hometown club in July 1996 to join Dean Bell's Rhinos side. It wouldn't be until the arrival of Graham Murray in 1997 that St Hilaire became an integral squad member though. He won the 1998 Shooting Star award, coming off the bench in the inaugural Super League Grand Final and he continued to develop into 1999 as he made 26 appearances and scored in both the Challenge Cup semi-final and final.

Four years later, St Hilaire left the Rhinos to return to Huddersfield, where he made 80 appearances. He was notably the club's top try scorer in 2004, finishing the season with 14 before moving on the Bradford in 2006.
