Next Up: Huddersfield Giants

Double header rugby league action returns to AMT Headingley on Friday 19th April as Leeds Rhinos men and women's sides both take on Huddersfield Giants, the women kicks off at 5.30pm before the men take to the field for kick off at 8pm.

The game is also the Rhinos' annual Armed Forces celebration, which sees the club recognise the work of our servicepeople.

Here's a preview ahead of the fixture:

Our opposition

Despite a rocky start to the new Super League season, Ian Watson's Giants side arrive at AMT Headingley for Friday's game with back-to-back wins under their belts against Hull FC and London Broncos.

The Giants had an under-par 2023 but they made sure to get this year off to a winning start with a 16-8 result against Leigh. A 50-8 result against Castleford broke up losses to St Helens, Wigan and Hull KR, but a win over Hull FC in the Challenge Cup looked to steer the side back in a winning direction as they posted five tries on London and ten on Hull FC before their Cup quarter final clash with Catalans last week.

Adam Clune seems to have found his feet in claret and gold as the team's new half back, whilst Jack Murchie and Tom Deakin have also made their first appearances for the club since moving from the NRL. Winger Adam Swift is the side's in-form player at the minute though as he has scored eight consecutive tries in Super League, including a hat trick against his former club Hull FC in round seven.

Huddersfield Giants Women begin their Betfred Women's Super League campaign against the Rhinos a fortnight after the two sides met in the final group game of the Betfred Challenge Cup.

A positive Challenge Cup campaign saw the Giants beat Hull KR and Leigh Leopards to secure their quarter-final spot, despite a 54-10 loss to the Rhinos at West Park, Leeds in their third and final group match. Drawn against reiging Cup holders St Helens, Lori Halloran's side...

2024 is Huddersfield's fourth season in the Super League division, with their sole piece of silverware coming in the Super League Shield win over Featherstone Rovers in 2021. Last season saw them win one out of ten matches; that win came against Leeds as a youthful Rhinos outfit were edged 20-18.

As this season has seen the competition expand to eight teams, the Giants will be hoping to climb the league table with a host of new faces, including 2022 Super League Grand Final winner and former Rhinos half back Sam Hulme.
