Lewis Jones tribute at Friday's game
Friday's game against St Helens at AMT Headingley will be an emotional occasion for all those associated with Leeds Rugby League as we say farewell to one of our greatest ever players, Lewis Jones.
The Golden Boy passed away last week and Rhinos fans will be joined by members of Lewis' family, his former team mates, friends and representatives from the rugby union teams of Gorseinon, Wales and the British & Irish Lions to celebrate the life of the man who led Leeds to their first ever Championship win in 1961.
Proceedings will begin at 7.40pm with a performance from the Leeds Male Voice Choir before Lewis' former team mates Derek Hallas and Alan Smith will lead out the Rhinos with a blue and amber wreath, whilst St Helens Chairman Eamon McManus will lead his side out with a red and white wreath representing our visitors and also Wales and the British Lions.
There will be a minutes silence before kick off. Please make sure you have switched your phones to silent and, if you are attending with young children, perhaps explain to them before the game what will be happening and why so they can join in the sign of respect for one of the game's greatest servants.
The matchday programme is a special edition looking back on Lewis' life and achievements with contributions from all those who came into contact with Lewis around the world and a special tribute from Leeds Rhinos Chief Executive Gary Hetherington. These are a limited edition, priced £4, and available from sellers around the ground.
