Match Pack: Round One

It’s game day at AMT Headingley Stadium as the Rhinos prepare to take on Salford Red Devils tonight live on Sky Sports, kick off 8pm.

With plenty going on around the ground as well as on the pitch, here is your snapshot preview of everything you need to know about tonight's teams:

21 man squad recap

Rhinos

In brief

- Potentially six players could make their debuts for the Rhinos tonight as only Kieran Hudson misses out on selection in Rohan Smith's 21 man squad. Former Salford players Brodie Croft and Andy Ackers take on their previous club for the first time since making the move to AMT Headingley in the off season, whilst Matt Frawley, Mickael Goudemand and Lachlan Miller get their first taste of playing a Super League game for the Rhinos. Paul Momirovski is the only one of the six to have not played during pre-season, so tonight is the first time the Rhinos fans get to see him in blue and amber.

- James Bentley and Sam Lisone get their first action of 2024 as well after overcoming injury. Lisone played on Boxing Day but has missed games against Bradford and Hull KR, but is in the mix to play, whilst Bentley hasn't played since the away defeat to Huddersfield last year.

- David Fusitu'a looks to pick up where he left 2023 off, after scoring a hat trick against Castleford in the final game of 2023. On his opposite edge, Ash Handley looks to get his new season kicked off in style, having finished the last two as the Rhinos' top try scorer.

- James Donaldson, who celebrated his testimonial against Hull KR a fortnight ago, enters his 15th Super League season and his sixth as a Rhino. Cameron Smith will also lead the side out for the first time since officially becoming captain in November.

Red Devils

In brief

- Five of Salford's 21-man squad previously played for the Rhinos and take on their former club tonight. Kallum Watkins captained the club having won multiple titles in blue and amber, whilst Nene Macdonald and Kai Morgan have been added to Paul Rowley's side during the off-season. Brad Singleton and Jack Ormondroyd also played in the Leeds pack

- Cade Cust, Joe Shorrocks and Matty Foster were also among the new arrivals that could make their club debuts, along with homegrown talent Nathan Connell, who scored in the Red Devils' pre-season defeat to St Helens.

- Ryan Brierley comes into the new season off the back of signing a new three year deal with the club, whilst Marc Sneyd is another familiar face. The former Castleford and Hull FC man kicked the third most goals in the competition last year and is one to watch out for at making the Red Devils tick tonight.

- New signing David Nofoaluma has to wait another week to make his first appearance as a Red Devil, having agreed to join the club earlier this week.

Head to head

Last time out

Two penalty goals from Rhyse Martin ensured that Leeds Rhinos kept their winning run in the Betfred Super League alive as they downed Salford Red Devils 16-14 in round 18.

Ash Handley and Cameron Smith scored the tries for the Rhinos, who took an eight-point lead into the break only for the Red Devils to retaliate earlier in the second half.
