Enright hoping to end debut season in style

Ruby Enright began this season playing her first full season back with the Rhinos Academy two years after suffering her ACL injury.  Fast forward eight months and the former Dewsbury player is getting set to play in her second major final with the Rhinos Women’s senior team.

Since making her debut against Leigh in the Challenge Cup the young 19-year-old has earned herself a regular spot in Lois Forsell’s side, which included starting in the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Final at Wembley.

This Sunday she is hoping to be involved in the Betfred Women’s Grand Final when the Rhinos take on York and she says she can't wait to be involved in the decider.

“Preparations are going well and we are all just buzzing for Sunday now, I can't wait for it.  I really didn't expect this season to go as well as it has gone. To get the full-back spot is something I am really proud of, particularly given some of the setbacks I’ve had with injury.

“The coaches have helped me develop a lot through this year and made the step up from the Academy easier.  Something that has been different for me is the video analysis as I’ve not really had the opportunity to do that before.  You see the game from the coach's perspective and they can show you examples and tell you how you can improve on and what you've done well.  It has benefitted me a lot and gives you something to focus on.

“There’s a lot of international players in the team that I look up to that have helped me out, both in training and in games.  Caitlin Beevers has been a big support for me as she has played full back for quite a while and has been in the international environment too, so she has offered me advice and passed on some of her knowledge to me.

“It has been good to see so many young players coming through the Academy and given their chance this year.  Having Caitlin Casey, Mayzi Carter and Evie Cousins step up at the same time has been good and gives you more confidence, because you have some familiar faces and know how they play after working with the in the Academy.”

Representing the Rhinos may be a relatively new experience, but supporting the Rhinos has always been part of her life says Enright.

“I’ve grown up supporting the Rhinos, my dad's always supported Leeds and I went to watch the men’s Challenge Cup final with him when we beat Hull KR 50-0,” she said “He is so proud to see me representing the Rhinos.  He’s actually been in France watching the Rugby Union World Cup for three weeks, but he is coming back on a ferry early Sunday morning and driving to York so he can watch us in the Final.  He’s supported my career and taken me to games all my life, so I don’t think he’d miss this!

“Growing up the Women’s team was just starting, so the people I looked up to were the men’s team, it is great now though that new generations will be able to watch us in finals and hopefully that will inspire them to start their Rugby League journeys. The Women’s game is growing more and more

so we'll definitely start seeing more development over the next couple of years.

“I watched the Women win the Grand Final last year at St Helens, and I would never have imagined that a year later I would be preparing to help them defend their title.

“It was good to get the experience of playing in a final earlier this year at Wembley, it was a massive occasion but I think a lot of us are quite hurt from the experience and want to put things right on Sunday.  Everybody wants to win and since that game we have developed a lot and worked hard.”
