Wheelchair Grand Final awaits for either Rhinos or Panthers this Saturday

In a repeat of last year's dramatic Final, Leeds Rhinos take on Halifax Panthers meet in the semi final stage this Saturday, with a place in the Wheelchair Super League Grand Final up for grabs, kick off 6.45pm.

Held at the University of Leeds' The Edge facility, this week's fixture is the second time the two sides have met in as many weeks. Last Sunday saw Halifax claim a 52-36 win over the Rhinos as James Simpson's side celebrated lifting the League Leaders' Shield, but the eyes of both teams are now firmly set on trying to reclaim the Grand Final crown.

Leeds last got their hands on the Grand Final trophy when they rounded off a memorable treble in 2021 with a 52-36 win over Leyland Warriors, but a second-half fightback last year couldn't see them beat the Panthers live on Sky Sports.

This season, the Rhinos have led the Super League competition from the front with a six-game unbeaten run that included crucial wins against rivals London Roosters and Halifax, as well as big scorelines against the competition's newest teams, Hull FC and Warrington Wolves. London broke the Rhinos' run at The Edge at the start of July, but further wins over Hull FC and Wigan in the final two weeks of the season all but made sure that the League Leaders' title was coming back to Headingley.

Like Leeds, Halifax have some of the biggest names in world Wheelchair Rugby League, including England star Seb Baschara, who recently returned from Catalans Dragons' Wheelchair side. The Panthers had a tough start to the season with a shock opening day defeat to Wigan as well as the Roosters in round four, but wins over Hull FC, Warrington and the return visit from Wigan got them their first points of the campaign.

Defeat to Hull FC in their penultimate game ended the chance of Halifax claiming the League Leaders' Shield, but a win over the Rhinos this weekend gives them a chance at silverware in 2023.
