Matchday Pack - Betfred Women's Super League Semi Final

In a repeat of 2022, Leeds Rhinos and St Helens go head to head in the Betfred Women's Semi Finals as they are only eighty minutes away from a potential Grand Final appearance. Held at the Totally Wicked Stadium, the Rhinos are undefeated in their last four trips to the stadium, whilst Saints look to be in contention for their second piece of silverware in 2023.
Ahead of kick off, here's everything you need to know about the clash:
Squad News Recap
Saints
- Saints could welcome Luci McColm, Lucie Sams and Phoebe Hook back from injury this week. The likes of Alyx Bridge and Danielle McGifford will be looking to get back into the 17 too, after missing out in recent weeks.
- 16 members of the 21 that featured against the Rhinos in the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Final in August are available for selection on Saturday. Captain Jodie Cunningham and Faye Gaskin will look to lead the side around the field, having both been major players in the Cup win.
- Cunningham was joined by coach Matty Smith and team mates Emily Rudge and Shona Hoyle in being nominated for league awards earlier in the week. Smith goes for coach of the year in his first season with the club, whilst Rudge and Hoyle are in the running for Woman of Steel with Cunningham.
- Saints are missing Zoe Harris, who is out injured, and Chantelle Crowl who is on tour with the Canada Ravens. Long term absentee Leah Burke remains sidelined with an ACL injury, whilst Meg Bragg continues her recovery having suffered an ACL injury in 2022.
Rhinos
- Caitlin Beevers and Ruby Enright have both been named in the squad after Enright missed the last three games through injury and Beevers has been ruled out for the last two.
- Tara Moxon, who was unavailable for the team’s last game against Wigan, is also back in the squad. She has nine tries in all competitions in 2023, including two in the league against Warrington.
- Eleven members of the Rhinos side have played in Super League semi finals before. The returning Beevers, captain Hanna Butcher and Sophie Nuttall have played in all four previous semis (2018 vs Castleford, 2019 vs St Helens, 2021 vs York, 2022 vs Saints), whilst Sophie Robinson has featured in three. Eight players featured against Saints in last year's semi.
- Off the back of nominations for Woman of Steel of Young Player of the Year earlier in the week, Keara Bennett and Caitlin Casey look to continue their form from the season by aiding Leeds back to the Grand Final. Bennett has experience having beaten Saints twice at the semi final stage.
- Amy Hardcastle could feature in her first semi final for the Rhinos, having played for Bradford and St Helens in the semi finals before. Jasmine Cudjoe also played in Castleford's semi final appearances in 2019 and 2021.
