Zane Tetevano update

Leeds Rhinos have announced that forward Zane Tetevano has returned home to New Zealand after agreeing an early release from his contract.

Tetevano was contracted until the end of the current season but, following his heart surgery earlier this year, he will be unable to return to action this year so has been released to return home to begin the next chapter of his career.

Tetevano joined the Rhinos in 2021 from Penrith Panthers having played for New Zealand in both wins over Great Britain on the Lions tour in 2019. The prop made 47 appearances for the Rhinos in three seasons at Headingley, scoring three tries.

Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Rohan Smith said, "Everyone at the Rhinos wishes Zanewell as he leaves the club and thanks him for his efforts during his time at Headingley. It has been a tough period for him this season, but he is set to make a full recovery thankfully, and his health has always been our priority."

Tetevano, 32, commented, "I would like to thank everyone at the Rhinos for the support they have given me over the last three years. Especially I would like to thank all the staff at the Leeds General Infirmary who have looked after me so much since my stroke and heart operation. I will always remember my time in Leeds fondly, and I wish Rohan and the team all the best for the rest of this season and the years ahead."

Tetevano is raffling off items of his Leeds Rhinos playing and training kit to raise money for the Children's Heart Surgery Fund in Leeds. Follow Zane on Instagram for more details.
