Opposition Report - Huddersfield Giants

Round 22 of the Betfred Super League sees Leeds Rhinos travel the short distance to Huddersfield to take on the Giants at the John Smith's Stadium this Sunday, KO 3pm.

2023 so far...

Despite an inconsistent 2023, Ian Watson's Huddersfield Giants one win away from mathematically securing safety and are also still in the fight for a potential Play-Off place

A delayed start to the new season, due to St Helens' World Club Challenge game, saw the Giants play their first game of the season in round two where they went down 26-16 to an in-form Warrington Wolves side. The claret and golds opened their account against Wakefield and Castleford in rounds three and four, but Wigan and St Helens managed to hold onto leads to both beat Ian Watson's side 14-12.

A trip to Headingley saw the Giants drop a nine-point lead in rivals round to Leeds but despite claiming a win over Catalans a week later, a run of four losses against Hull FC, Hull KR and Leigh Leopards and Salford in the Challenge Cup kept Huddersfield at the bottom end of the league table.

Off the back of four more losses between Magic Weekend and Round 17, the Giants hit a run of form to keep them just four points away from a potential Play Off berth. Along with Warrington, Watson's side are the only team this year to defeat Catalans twice as they claimed a 22-14 win in the South of France, before coming back to the UK to beat Wakefield, Hull FC and Castleford in their best run of results this season.

They come into this week after back-to-back losses against Saints and Salford, but with a win on Sunday, they can move level on points with the Rhinos.
