Sinfield hoping to pass Super League test after exam success

Young Leeds Rhinos half back Jack Sinfield was one of the thousands of teenagers around the country getting their A level results this morning and now the rising star has got his sights set on more success on the field in the remaining games this season.

Sinfield came off the bench in the Rhinos last game against Leigh Leopards after the sudden departure of experienced head Blake Austin and he is now hoping to get the nod again from Head Coach Rohan Smith to show what he can do when the Rhinos face Warrington at Headingley on Sunday afternoon.

Sinfield got three Bs in his A levels after studying maths, economics and business. The 18-year-old, who made his debut in 2022, has been full time this season and had to combine his college work with training and playing commitments having played for the first team, the reserves and the academy team in 2023.

He admits he is glad that his hard work and determination has paid off. He commented, "I am looking forward to focusing on my rugby for a bit, I do hope to go to uni at some point but I'm not sure what I will study just yet but I am going to take some time off my studies for a couple of years now. It was tough to combine my college work with training full time. I have missed a lot of my college days and that has meant coming home from a long pre-season day and then doing three hours work at home to catch up. I was going into college on my days off as well but I am pleased to have all that done now."

Sinfield made a late cameo appearance against Leigh but he has been building up his minutes of action in the reserves after a head injury earlier in the season. He commented, "It was good to get back on the field at Headingley against Leigh. It was the first time I had played for the first team since my head injury against Salford at home. Obviously, Blake has moved on and that has given myself and Corey a chance to show Rohan what we can do.  Hopefully, I can keep gaining extra minutes of experience and that will help me in the long run."

The Rhinos face Warrington on Sunday in a game that commentators are billing as a must win for both teams. Warrington have seen their form dip, resulting in the departure of Daryl Powell, whilst Leeds are desperate for the points to fight their way into the play off spots. Sinfield is confident that he and his team mates can produce the goods on Sunday. He added,  "We are two wins off the plays off and we play the teams who are in the mix and our aim is to get into the play offs."

Sinfield could be up against England skipper George Williams on Sunday and he says the former Wigan and Canberra half is someone who he admires. He revealed, "George is a great player, obviously, he is the England captain and one of the best halves in our competition. He is a very skilful player and a key player for Warrington. I am looking forward to the challenge of going up against him if I get the chance."
