Rhinos Women take on Giants in this Sunday's double header

The first game of Sunday's double header of Rugby League action sees the Wembley-bound Leeds Rhinos Women take on Huddersfield Giants Women at Headingley Stadium as Lois Forsell's side look to close the gap to St Helens and York Valkyrie at the top of the Betfred Women's Super League table, kick off 12.30pm.

July proved to be a busy and successful month for the Rhinos, who went unbeaten in the league with two wins and a draw, plus they also booked their spot, alongside St Helens, as the first Women's Rugby League sides to play at Wembley in the Challenge Cup Final. Focusing on the league, defeats to top three rivals York and St Helens on home soil, either side of a win over this week's opponents Huddersfield, were stumbling blocks for Forsell's side but convincing wins over Warrington and Wigan, along with a hard-fought draw on the road against the Valkyrie, has put the Rhinos only two points behind Saints in the league standings.

Following Wembley next Saturday, a straight run for the Play-Offs sees Leeds clash with Warrington, St Helens and Wigan in the final rounds of the regular season as they look to defend their Grand Final crown.

Huddersfield come into this weekend's fixture looking for their first points of the season, having pushed newly-promoted Warrington close last weekend. Having led at half time, the Giants couldn't stop the Wolves from rallying to overturn the deficit in the 26-20 result, which keeps the Claret and Golds bottom of the table with three games remaining.

The club received a boost in numbers as St Helens youngster Grace Arrowsmith arrived on a two week loan spell and she will be available alongside Bethan Oates, who has been involved in the England Performance Pathway in the last year. Frankie Townend could face her old club, having played 15 times for the Rhinos over a two year spell, whilst on the other side of the field, Izzy Northrop and Bella Sykes could be in contention to play their former club.

Recent meetings

The history between Leeds and Huddersfield in the Women's competition is brief as the Giants were first promoted to Super League in 2022.

In the league, the Rhinos have won all three meetings starting with a big 60-4 result at Headingley last year. The last two meetings, both away from home, have seen Leeds record scorelines above the 80-point mark too, whilst they have also kept the Giants scoreless. Including the Challenge Cup, Leeds still haven't lost a game with two wins in the group stages of the 2022 and 2023 competitions.

Take a look at the tries from the last three league games below:

2022 - Rhinos 60 Giants 4

2022 - Giants 0 Rhinos 82

2023 - Giants 0 Rhinos 80
