Rhinos Women aiming for back to back league wins this Sunday
After crushing Warrington with a 17-try performance last weekend, Leeds Rhinos Women continue their busy month of fixtures this Sunday as they take on Wigan Warriors at Robin Park Arena, kick off 12pm.
Lois Forsell’s side backed up their Nines Finals win with an 88-0 victory over the Wolves, which is one of the side’s biggest wins in all competitions. Amy Hardcastle’s return to the squad saw the England international score four tries as she took her total for the season to eight, whilst Caitlin Beevers marked her return to the squad with two tries. Young half back Caitlin Casey continued her positive start to her senior career, adding three tries and eight goals to the points tally.
The result moves Leeds into third place in the Betfred Women’s Super League table with six games remaining, including clashes against Wigan and York this month. Sunday's meeting with the Warriors is the first of two big games coming up between the sides before they clash for a place in the Challenge Cup Final at the end of July.
The Warriors sit a point behind Leeds in the league table, having lost out to York Valkyrie last time out. Kris Ratcliffe retained most of his squad from last year, and also promoted several academy talents into the first team as the club looks to develop its homegrown players. Despite losing Georgia Wilson to Australian side South Logan Magpies, England’s Vicky Molyneux and club captain Rachel Thompson are the most experienced players in the cherry and white’s ranks.
The Warriors were knocked out in the Super League semi-finals last year, but they started this year strongly with a draw against Warrington and a 30-20 win over Huddersfield at the end of May. Despite losing their last two league outings, Ratcliffe’s side have a Betfred Challenge Cup semi final clash to look forward to and were also impressive during the Nines Finals.
