Opposition Report - Warrington Wolves

Following their home win over Huddersfield last time out, Leeds Rhinos are back on the road this Thursday night as they face Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium for the second time in 2023, kick off 8pm.
Preview our opponents below:
2023 so far...
Led by coach Daryl Powell, Warrington got their season going quickly out of the blocks, but recent results have seen the Wolves fall into a battle with Catalans, Wigan, Leigh and Salford at the top of the Super League table.
Starting with a 42-10 result against the Rhinos in round one, Powell's side quickly built an eight-game winning streak to sit at the top of the pile. Compared to their bottom three finish last year, Huddersfield, Salford, Hull KR, Leigh, Castleford, Hull FC and Catalans were all defeated between February and April as the Wire's new-look squad got firing in the early stages. Half back Josh Drinkwater looks to have completed the club's spine, which includes England captain George Williams and the electrifying Matt Dufty, plus prop Paul Vaughan and Sam Kasiano added more firepower in the forwards.
Wigan and St Helens inflicted the first losses of Warrington's season in round nine and ten (the Wolves only scoring one try in each game), but soon the Wolves were back to winning ways against Wakefield, Hull KR and the Dragons in the Cup.
Looking at their last five fixtures though, the Wolves have lost grip of top spot with only one win (a 30-26 result against Huddersfield). Last time out, Powell's old club, Castleford, avenged their loss earlier in the season with a comeback win against Warrington.

Last Super League clash
Warrington suffered their third loss in five matches at the hands of a revived Castleford side last Friday night as the Wolves lost out 23-14.
A try from Connor Wrench and two from Matty Ashton got the Wolves back into the game, having been 14-0 down at the break, but a drop goal and late try meant Daryl Powell left his former club without the league points.
