Rhinos Reserves to open Giants double header on Friday night

As the Reserves competition hots up with five games remaining, Leeds Rhinos clash with Huddersfield Giants in an exciting contest at Headingley Stadium before the men's teams take to the field, kick off 5.30pm.
Tony Smith's side were dominant last time out against Wakefield as they ran nine tries passed Trinity at the Be Well Support Stadium, thanks to braces from Charlie Venables and Luke Hooley. Adding to further wins over Bradford, Castleford and Hull FC so far in 2023, Leeds currently sit sixth in the league table but with two games in hand on Wigan, Hull and Huddersfield and three games in hand on Warrington and league leaders St Helens. It comes after the Rhinos had games against Hull KR and London postponed in April and their clash with Wigan abandoned last month.
Friday's game will be the second time that the Rhinos have been a curtain raiser for the men's game this year after they defeated Hull 38-18 in a convincing display in April. The Reserves are set to make two more appearances at the stadium too this year against Leigh and Warrington in August, although Leigh have not played a Reserves fixture at all this year.
This week's opponents Huddersfield are aiming to hold onto their top four spot with five wins in seven matches. The Giants have as many wins as they got in total last year as head coach Tom Tsang has used a mixture of first team, academy and loan players. First team talents Sam Halsall and Harvey Livett in particular appeared in the Giants' 42-all draw last time out to Warrington, which broke a four-match winning run for the side in claret and gold. Hull KR, Newcastle, London and Leigh (the latter being a postponement) were all defeated during that run, plus Wakefield were also beaten 66-4 in the opening match of the season.
Looking at their remaining fixtures, the Giants have a straightforward run in as Tsang's side take on Bradford and Castleford, with a trip to face St Helens in between. They then conclude their Reserves season against Salford at home.
