Opposition Report - Huddersfield Giants

Off the back of a break in the Super League schedule for the Challenge Cup quarter finals, Leeds Rhinos return to action this week as Rohan Smith's side take on Huddersfield Giants at Headingley in a dedicated MND Awareness game, raising money for the MND Association, kick off 8pm.

2023 so far...

After a busy off-season of new arrivals, Huddersfield Giants have overcome early teething problems to develop into a strong opponent.

A delayed start to the new season, due to St Helens' World Club Challenge game, saw the Giants play their first game of the season in round two where they went down 26-16 to Daryl Powell's high-flying Wolves. Huddersfield opened their account against Wakefield and Castleford in rounds three and four, but Wigan and St Helens managed to hold onto leads to both beat Ian Watson's side 14-12.

A trip to Headingley saw the Giants drop a nine-point lead in rivals round but despite claiming a win over Catalans a week later, a trio of losses against Hull FC, Hull KR and Leigh Leopards continued to keep Huddersfield at the bottom end of the league table. Heading into this week's fixture off the back of defeats to St Helens and Warrington, the Giants will be looking to avoid a tenth defeat of the year and close the gap on Leeds, who are two points ahead.
