Rhinos dedicate Giants clash to MND Awareness

Leeds Rhinos have announced that their big West Yorkshire derby clash with Huddersfield Giants in the Betfred Super League on Friday 23rd June, will be a dedicated MND Awareness game with Rob Burrow and his family being guests of honour at the clash.

Leeds Rhinos and Huddersfield Giants have worked together to agree that 20% of any match tickets sold, excluding any discounted tickets, will be donated to the MND Association with volunteers from the charity around the stadium on the night also collecting and offering advice about MND to supporters. The match, which will be screened live on Sky Sports, will also be a celebration of the way the Rugby League community has come together to support the MND community since Rob Burrow's diagnosis in December 2019. 777 school children, including Rob’s daughters Macy and Maya, will take part in a dance spectacular before the game whilst Rob's son Jackson will deliver a specially produced one-off match ball before kick off.

Leeds Rhinos have also confirmed that they will wear their Doddie Weir tribute kit for this fixture, which was worn at the Magic Weekend last Saturday at Newcastle. Supporters can still purchase replica shirts here with £10 from the sale of every replica shirt will be donated to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

The game comes just 48 hours after Global MND Awareness Day is marked across the world on 21st June.

Commenting on the plans Leeds Rhinos Commercial Director Rob Oates said, "Every time that Rob and his family come to a game is always a special occasion but we are particularly looking forward to our annual MND Awareness game. As a sport, Rugby League has embraced the MND community since Rob’s diagnosis and this local derby is a great opportunity for us to celebrate that together."
