Opposition Report - Wakefield Trinity

2023 so far...

This season has been tough for Wakefield, who have reached the halfway point of the season without a win.

Head coach Mark Applegarth has called in reinforcements over the last few weeks to bolster his side. Sam Hewitt returned for a second loan spell from Huddersfield, whilst trio Will Dagger, Luke Gale and David Fifita signed contracts with the aim of keeping the club in Super League. In need of options at full back and half back, Dagger was part of a swap deal with Hull KR that saw Corey Hall go in the opposite direction to the Robins, and Gale's arrival from Keighley saw the former Leeds man sign an 18-month deal. Fifita proved to be the headline signing as the prop returned from retirement in Australia to pull on a Trinity shirt one last time.

Fifita made his second debut in the Magic Weekend loss to Leigh, who played a large majority of the match with twelve players. Sunday's defeat sees the club six points adrift from Castleford at the halfway point of the season, meaning that league points are more important than ever at this stage of the season.
