Weir family thank Rhinos family for warm welcome

Whilst the result on the field was not what everyone was hoping for when they travelled up to St James' Park for the latest instalment of the Magic Weekend, Leeds Rhinos fans made sure that they made the weekend a huge success for the MND community through their support of the unique Rhinos Magic Weekend shirt.
The blue and yellow tartan shirt was in memory of former Scotland and Newcastle Rugby Union player Doddie Weir, who passed away last year. Weir was a mentor to Rhinos legend Rob Burrow after his own diagnosis and the sales of the replica shirt have raised money for Weir's My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.
Two of Doddie's sons, Hamish and Ben, were at St James' Park with other family members and they were blown away by the support and love for their late father on a weekend of celebration for Rugby League.
Hamish told Sky Sports Barrie McDermott, "Rob and my dad had such a connection, albeit coming together in such tough circumstances. I have seen hundreds of the Rhinos Magic shirts around the stadium and he'll be looking down on us from up there giving us a wry smile."
His brother Ben added, "I think it is pretty sweet for Rob Burrow and dad to be so close. I think that is what has brought this kit together. Rob being a Leeds Rhinos legend and dad being a friend of his, Leeds Rhinos feels like such a big family and for dad to be introduced into that and being part of it with this kit is phenomenal."
A huge thank you to everyone who has already purchased their Doddie Weir Magic Weekend shirt, it is not too late to get yours but be quick to avoid disappointment. You can order now by clicking here.

The outcome of a rugby league game will make little difference to anyone’s life, but the work to find a cure and support those with MND will make a massive difference to the lives of many.
We’re all on the same team.
