Rhinos Women to take on Saints in Headingley double header

This Friday sees Leeds Rhinos Women kick off a double header of action at Headingley Stadium as Lois Forsell's side gets back into Betfred Women's Super League action against St Helens live on Sky Sports, kick off 5.30pm.

Clashes between Leeds and St Helens date back to the Rhinos first year in the Women's Super League in 2018 and since then, both sides have added their names to plenty of domestic silverware. Leeds completed the Cup and Grand Final double in 2019 before St Helens' 2021 Treble season was the first time a club had won all three domestic trophies since Bradford in 2017. Meetings between the two sides have been tight too with Saints winning five out of nine meetings and Leeds winning four.

So far in 2023, the Rhinos bounced back from defeat to York in the season's opening round to put together a strong Cup campaign. In the league the Rhinos quickly dismantled Huddersfield away from home, before beating the Giants again last weekend in the Cup.

Saints were also defeated by the Valkyrie in their only league fixture before the Cup group stages began. Leah Burke's sole try got the Saints on the board in a 26-6 loss, but Matty Smith's side bounced back to winning form in the Challenge Cup group stages. Like Leeds, they blitzed their way through their opposition including a 106-0 win over Castleford Tigers and a 76-0 result on the road in London.

A win this week is necessary if they are to move back into the top three, especially with a game against Wigan coming up next month along with a Challenge Cup quarter final tie.

Last Time Out

Leeds and St Helens last met in the Super League semi finals to decide who would progress through to the Grand Final.

Despite dropping behind in the first half, the Rhinos rallied at Headingley thanks to two tries from Sophie Robinson before Zoe Hornby sealed the win with her drive for the try line.
