Opposition Preview
Round six is headlined by the Rhinos' clash with Wigan, who are the top two Challenge Cup winners in history. Wigan's 20 Cup wins includes a winning run between the 1987/88 and 1994/95 when the side in Cherry and White lifted the Cup every year, including twice against Leeds in 1994 and 1995. Leeds are just behind on 14 Cup wins; the latest coming in 2020 when a drop goal from Luke Gale secured a one-point win against Salford.
Saturday's opponents have the added pressure of being the Cup holders coming into this year's competition, having beaten Huddersfield at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to a late Liam Marshall try.
The win ended a nine-year wait to bring the Cup back to the north west, after a Sam Tomkins-inspired display helped the Warriors overcome Hull FC in the rain back in 2013. Up until last season, the black and whites and Warrington proved hard hurdles for the Warriors to overcome in the Cup, as Wigan lost to both clubs twice in either the quarter or semi final stages over the decade.
Their most recent clash with Leeds came on the way to the Rhinos lifting the title in 2020, but fans will have to look back to 2007 to find Wigan's last win over Leeds before the final eight stage.
Last week's Super League outing between the two sides adds more fuel to an exciting fixture too, after the Rhinos produced a momentous second half comeback to beat the Warriors 40-18. The cherry and whites aren't a side to be underestimated though as they have started the Super League season as one of the pundit's favourites for the Grand Final. With eight wins in twelve matches, Matt Peet's side sit second in the table, four points adrift from the leaders Warrington.
