Loan Watch: Four Rhinos in action as Championship schedule resumes

Four Rhinos players got the opportunity to get extra game time in the Betfred Championship as Keighley Cougars, York RLFC Knights, Bradford Bulls and Batley Bulldogs were all in action.

At Keighley Cougars, back rower Joe Gibbons continued to aid Rhys Lovegrove's side up the Championship table as they defeated Whitehaven on the road.

The young back rower has made four league appearances for the Cougars in 2023, all as a starter, and was involved again in the back row during the 32-24 result. A hat trick from Ben Crooks proved the difference as the former Hull KR, Hull FC and Parramatta Eels centre led the back line in scoring.

York RLFC Knights are chasing the Cougars in the league table and a two point win over London Broncos on Sunday gave Andrew Henderson's side their first win in four games.

Oli Field was part of Henderson's lineup and, like Gibbons who played with Field throughout his time in the club's Academy, he has also started every game he's played for the Knights. Amongst the second rowers, he played a part in AJ Towse's first try of the game as the winger went on to score a hat trick, and was ever present on the Knights' left edge.

Bradford's away trip to Barrow Raiders proved to be a nightmare for the Bulls, who lost out 46-12.

A close first half saw the Bulls lead at the break when Leeds loanee Luis Roberts danced with the touchline to score in the corner and make the score 6-4. A second half collapse though saw the Raiders score seven tries compared to Bradford's one extra score from Jack Walker.

Last night, Luke Hooley was back in action with Batley as part of his dual registration between the Bulldogs and the Rhinos.

Starting at full-back against Widnes, Hooley kicked two goals in a low scoring affair, but by full time his points proved crucial as a 11-4 result put Batley level on points with Haliifax and the Vikings. Lucas Walshaw was the only try scorer for the Bulldogs, who also needed Josh Woods' drop goal to seal the deal with minutes remaining.
