Meet the Rhinos Women's new signings

Ahead of the opening match of the Betfred Women's Super League season, find out more about the new faces at the Rhinos.

Easter Sunday sees the reigning Betfred Women's Super League Grand Final champions Leeds Rhinos Women get their 2023 season underway against York Valkyrie in a huge clash at Headingley, kick off 3.30pm.

Lois Forsell's side have bolstered their ranks during the off-season with a number of new faces. so ahead of their Super League debuts, find out more about the club's new signings for 2023:

Georgia Hale

As the first player to make the switch from the NRLW to Super League, recruiting Georgia Hale is a big coup for the Rhinos.

The loose forward was one of the key figureheads that guided the Kiwi Ferns to the World Cup Final last year, with the Ferns' vice-captain starting all but one game. She has been a part of the international set up since 2014 and having represented her country 12 times, she is one of the world's most recognisable women's Rugby League players.

In the NRLW, she debuted for the Warriors in 2018 as the club finished third over the next three years. Moving to Gold Coast Titans in 2021, she was ever present under Karyn Murphy and Jamie Feeney for two consecutive seasons, including when the Titans reached the semi-finals in Hale's debut campaign. Now with Leeds in the Women's Super League, she is one of the players to watch this year.

Georgia spoke to RhinosTV earlier this week about making her club debut, watch it here.

Amy Hardcastle

Another star of the World Cup was England's Amy Hardcastle, who switched from St Helens to the Rhinos during the off-season.

A powerful centre that knows how to find the try line, Hardcastle's try scoring record is renowned across the Women's game as the centre scored 50 tries as Saints lifted back-to-back Challenge Cups, a League Leaders' Shield and a Grand Final title over a two year period. Prior to that, she played alongside head coach Lois Forsell as the pair helped Bradford win the treble in 2017, plus Hardcastle was one of the Bulls' star players for their debut Super League campaign a year later.

Last year's World Cup saw the centre step into the limelight again when she finished as one of England's top try scorers with five tries. Three of those were scored on the pitch at Headingley in their opening win over Brazil, and Hardcastle will be wanting to be among the scorers again on Sunday.

Bethan Dainton

Back rower and Welsh international Bethan Dainton is the latest Rhinos player to switch from Rugby Union to Rugby League.

Having not played either code until eight years ago, she has amassed eight caps for Wales and was also capped for the Barbarians in 2021 against Springbok Women’s. Domestically, she most recently played for Harlequins in the Allianz Premier 15s and was part of the side that went on to lift the trophy against Saracens in the 2020/21 season.

Dainton is one of three players that is combining her rugby with working full-time with the British Army.

Izzy Northrop

Izzy Northrop proves to be an exciting prospect from Huddersfield Giants.  Last season with the Giants, Northrop featured in all eight of Huddersfield's league and Cup games and notably scored three tries in Cup wins over Leigh and Hull FC.  She made a quick start to life at Leeds too, scoring in the Rhinos' pre-season win over Warrington last month.

The forward gained international representation at the end of 2022 when she earned a call-up to the England Students Women's squad and with her move to the Rhinos, she can continue to work with Students' head coach and Leeds Rhinos Women's Team Manager Ellis Pascall.

Kaiya Glynn

Kaiya Glynn is another player who duals up her rugby with serving as a combat medical technician with the British Army.

She has been a top performer for the Army Rugby League side over the last two years as she's finished as the side's top points scorer in both the 2021 and 2022 seasons. She helped the side lift their 13th consecutive Inter Services title last year too.

Earlier this year, she featured as part of the England Community Lions team that took on the England Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) team and recorded two tries in the 22-18 win.

Jenna Greening

Half back Jenna Greening joined Glynn in representing the England Community Lions too in February as one of three players selected from the British Army side.

Returning to the sport after a ten-year absence, Greening returned to be a crucial try scorer in the Army's 10-0 win over the Navy in the Inter Services title match, plus she was involved in the Army's Challenge Cup games against Barrow and St Helens last year.

Outside of Rugby, Jenna is an Army Reservist and also works as an Operational Support Grade at Hull prison.
