Loan Watch: Young Rhinos feature in Challenge Cup weekend

Away from the Betfred Super League, last weekend saw clubs from the Betfred Championship, League One and National Leagues take part in round four of the Betfred Challenge Cup and two of the Rhinos young players got the opportunity to feature in wins for York RLFC Knights and Keighley Cougars.

At the LNER Community Stadium, back rower Oli Field made his club debut for York having joined the club on a month's loan deal from the Rhinos. Starting in the back row, Field played the full eighty minutes as the Knights edged out the high flying Sheffield Eagles in one of the shock results of the round. Danny Kirkmond's two tries led the scoring for Andrew Henderson's side, despite the forward going to the sin bin in the first half, but AJ Towse stole the show with his acrobatic effort in the second half.

Sheffield rallied on the score board to come back to within two points, but the first half damage was already done by the Knights, who progressed to the fifth round with a 24-22 result.

Elsewhere in Yorkshire, Joe Gibbons backed up his memorable debut for Keighley as the Cougars dismantled North Wales Crusaders at home.

Continuing his season-long loan spell from the Rhinos, Gibbons might not have been a try scorer, but his efforts were well received by the Keighley crowd as the youngster shone again in the second rows. Former Rhinos Academy player Keenan Dyer-Dixon and Mo Agoro scored two tries each in stand out performances, plus further tries from Billy Gaylor, Thomas Doyle and Lewis Young helped the Cougars reach the fifth round for the first time since 2014.
