St Helens Women 6 Leeds Rhinos Women 14

Just like the men's team the day before, Leeds Rhinos Women overcame a 6-0 deficit to defeat St Helens 14-6 to reach the Betfred Women's Super League Grand Final, thanks to two tries from Sophie Robinson and one from Zoe Hornby.

The semi final beforehand saw York City Knights book their place in the Final with a tight win over Wigan Warriors, and as Leeds and Saints took to the field, it was anyone's guess who would be meeting the Knights at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

Leeds had the best of the early possession, forcing St Helens to give away the ball from the kick off, but the Red Vee had their chances too. Saints captain Emily Rudge was denied by the video referee after losing the ball over the line, and then Shona Hoyle also had a try ruled out, thanks to some last ditch defence from Emma Lumley that saw the prop dislodge the ball as Hoyle went for the put down.

Rachael Woosey, who was a try scorer against the Rhinos in last year's Grand Final, finally made the breakthrough to open the scoring on 25 minutes. Leeds had been caught offside in the build up and as Saints pulled the ball right, Rebecca Rotheram and Zoe Harris combined to send Woosey through a gap and the centre made sure she touched down by the posts. Beth Stott's conversion bounced off both uprights to keep the score at 4-0.

Eboni Partington almost grabbed a second for Derek Hardman's side, only to be denied by a great cover tackle by Courtney Winfield-Hill, but Leeds made sure they ended the half strongly, although the Rhinos left it too late in the half and had to settle to go into the break four points down.

The second half saw more of the same energy as both sides knew what was on the line. Leeds began with the early pressure like in the first half and got their rewards when winger Robinson got her first of the match. Caitlin Beevers earned a set restart off the back of a confident drive by the outside back and as Sam Hulme's kick penned Burke close to her try line, good defence from Hanna Butcher and Tara Moxon saw Saints concede the drop out. Working the short side nicely, Winfield-Hill came up with the dagger pass to send Robinson over in the corner to level the score.

Robinson could have had her second after another great kick by Winfield-Hill travelled over the head of Partington, but the Leeds winger couldn't reel it in as the Rhinos kept the pressure on. Back to back penalties though led to St Helens taking the points on offer; Stott striking the penalty goal through the uprights to give the Red Vee a two point advantage.

With fans still unsure who would come out on top, Leeds were given a major boost with a fantastic Robinson try. Even though they lost Shannon Lacey to injury in a major blow, the Rhinos showed spirit going forward as Zoe Hornby charged through a hole before offloading for Goldthorp to make extra metres. Making it to the last tackle, Winfield-Hill tried her luck again with a cross-field kick that sailed over Partington and bounced just right for Robinson to plant down for her 100th point in the Betfred Women's Super League.

In the dying minutes, Saints tried everything to find a levelling try and Rudge looked to have provided just that with her break through the middle. Goldthorp stood her ground well and Leeds got lucky as they forced an error from Zoe Harris. Forsell's side had luck on their side again as Burke touched Winfield-Hill's fifth tackle kick as it went over the sideline, gifting Leeds a set ten metres from their opponents line. Emma Lumley and Dannielle Anderson tried their luck but it was Hornby that got over, kick starting the Rhinos' celebrations as they booked their place in a fourth consecutive Grand Final.
