Flashback: Catalans Dragons
The Rhinos return to home soil in round six of the Betfred Super League as Rohan Smith's side welcomes Catalans Dragons to Headingley on Saturday afternoon, kick off 1pm.
In the build-up to the game, take a look back at some classic past Super League encounters and notable names that have played for both clubs:
Previous matches
Since the Dragons first entered Super League in 2005, Leeds have won 25 of 42 meetings between the two clubs. The Rhinos' home record against the French outfit in Super League weighs towards the team in blue and amber, who have 13 wins in 18 games.
Recently, Catalans have fought back against Leeds to win six out of the last ten meetings, including their last three visits to Headingley.
The classic
A hat trick from Brent Webb led the scoring for Leeds as Tony Smith's side downed Catalans 54-8 in front of a home crowd.
The New Zealander was one of six try scorers for the Rhinos in their second-ever home meeting with the Dragons, with Clinton Toopi, Kevin Sinfield, Gareth Ellis, Scott Donald and Rob Burrow also getting over the try line.
The nail-biting finish
A last-gasp penalty from Liam Sutcliffe grabbed a dramatic 32-31 win for Leeds against Catalans at Headingley in 2013.
A close affair saw the Dragons take a 20-14 lead at the break, but two tries from Joel Moon and one from Carl Ablett saw Leeds turn the tables in their favour. The Dragons rallied to lead 31-30 in the dying minutes, but an obstruction penalty proved fatal as Sutcliffe kicked the winning points.
The last meeting
It was a tough evening at Headingley Stadium as Leeds Rhinos suffered a tight 10-4 defeat to Catalans Dragons; man of the match Blake Austin scoring the home side’s only try.
Austin's score gave Leeds the early lead but tries from Fouad Yaha and Joe Chan saw the Dragons steal the result.
Connections
During the Super League era, there are plenty of players and coaches that have been part of both Leeds and Catalans teams down the years. Here are just a few that you might remember...

Paul Aiton - Hooker Aiton was brought to Leeds as part of a swap deal and was a great addition to the team between 2014 and 2015. The PNG international signed for Catalans in 2016 and spent three seasons under Laurent Frayssinous and Steve McNamara.

Luke Burgess - Coming through the club’s Academy from Dewsbury Moor, prop Luke Burgess made his Super League debut for Leeds against Castleford in 2008 and went on to lift the Grand Final trophy in 2009. Joining the Dragons in 2017, his time in the South of France was short-lived, thanks to a season-ending knee injury.

Richie Myler - Leaving Warrington to join Catalans in 2016, Myler played two seasons in Perpignan, during which time he helped the club survive relegation in 2017. He switched to Leeds in 2018 and has made over 100 appearances for the Rhinos.

Brent Webb - Brent Webb made the switch to join Leeds, where he played for five seasons and was a key figure in the Rhinos’ squad. He lifted three Grand Final titles during his time at the club, before switching to the Dragons where he played ten games over two years.
