Leeds Rhinos Women meet the 2021 treble winning St Helens at Elland Road on Saturday when the first piece of silverware of the season – the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup – is up for grabs, kick off 12pm.

Here’s more about Saturday’s opponents

Opponents in focus – St Helens

The reigning holders St Helens are back in the final after a 100 per cent winning Cup run in 2022. So far in the competition, their defence has yet to concede a point while offensively, they have scored over 300 points, which is the most scored in the Cup this year.

Saints’ breezed through their group matches. Barrow were convincingly beaten 68-0 before Derek Hardman’s side put 88 points passed The Army in their first home match of the season. Then Warrington Wolves, who ended up making it through to the quarter finals against Leeds, were stopped with a 54-0 result. Centres Amy Hardcastle and Carrie Roberts led the way with eight tries a piece in those games, while power second rower Paige Travis also in five tries.

Going into the knockouts they faced Group B runners up Huddersfield Giants, who were defeated 24-0 as the Red Vee booked their semi final spot – Hardcastle with three tries and Roberts with one and half back Zoe Harris also on the scoresheet. Then in the semi finals, Hardman’s team blew Featherstone Rovers off the field by recording another 80 point scoreline; nine players scoring tries on that occasion.

2022 Squad

Ones to Watch

Georgia Roche

Since joining the Rhinos, half back Georgia Roche has spent very little time settling into Lois Forsell’s system. Scoring twice on her debut against Huddersfield, she backed it up with another try against Warrington and her kicking game was also instrumental for Leeds to seal a place in the Final.

Roche isn’t a stranger to the Cup Final either as she featured for Castleford in the 2018 and 2019 Finals against Leeds.

Amy Hardcastle

England centre Amy Hardcastle is the leading St Helens’ try scoring once again with 14 tries so far.

Alongside centre Carrie Roberts, the duo lead the line as part of a talented Saints outfit that also includes internationals Jodie Cunningham, Emily Rudge and Leah Burke.

Fran Goldthorp

Rhinos fans know of the threat that centre Fran Goldthorp possesses, plus she isn’t a stranger to scoring on the big stage.

The 19-year-old helped Leeds to victory in the 2019 Cup Final by scoring the opening try for the Rhinos and was also on the score sheet when Lois Forsell’s side last met Saints in the semi finals last year. Her tally of 20 tries last year is testament to what Goldthorp is capable of, plus she has scored tries in all but one game in this year’s Cup competition.
