Loan watch: Duo in action as Bulls edge Batley
Liam Tindall ( 29 ) of Leeds Rhinos goes over for a try
Last week saw some of Leeds’ youngest stars ply their trade in the Betfred Championship on loan. Before Round 4 started, the club renewed its dual registration deal with Bradford Bulls and also continue its loan deal with Featherstone Rovers so that Leeds’ youngsters had the chance to develop outside of the club’s first team and reserves.
After an entertaining week in the Championship, take a look at how the Rhinos players got on:
Jarrod O’Connor and Liam Tindall
Rhinos duo Jarrod O’Connor and Liam Tindall both featured for Bradford Bulls in their 21-20 win over local rivals Batley Bulldogs on Sunday.
Tindall started outside of former Rhino Rhys Evans and scored a crucial try in the second half to guid the home side to victory, while O’Connor came off the bench and produced a positive performance. The forward almost got a try too but was unable to ground a kick ahead from Tindall.
A close affair was decided by the boot of half back Jordan Lilley, who made his return from injury. Aaron Murphy got the scoring underway quickly but, after Dec Patton was shown a yellow card, Josh Hodson hit back for the Bulldogs. Further tries from Batley’s Lucas Walshaw and Bradford’s Thomas Doyle kept the scoring level before Tindall struck.
Although there was a late fightback from the Bulldogs, Lilley’s one pointer proved the difference as the home side took away an important two league points
In other loan news, Leeds centre Levi Edwards started his season-long loan spell with James Ford’s side last week.
Although he was unavailable for Sunday’s game against London Broncos, the exciting centre became the latest Rhino to join the Knights, after Corey Johnson and former Leeds centre Corey Hall both enjoyed spells there in 2021. So far in 2022, Edwards has played in three out of Leeds’ five pre season matches, including wins over Featherstone and Bradford, and also produced a strong performance for Chev Walker’s reserves side in their demolition of Bradford Bulls a fortnight ago.
