Rhinos launch distinctive new look third kit

Leeds Rhinos have launched a new look third kit ahead of their Betfred Super League clash with Wakefield Trinity tonight live on Sky Sports and the club have been straight talking with their fans about the reasons behind the new look strip.

Four games into the new campaign, the club will wear a new vibrant pink kit for the local derby clash with Wakefield. The Rhinos had pink as part of their kit design for four successive seasons between 2010 and 2013 and the colour makes a return to provide a new look that gives enough contrast between the Rhinos existing kits and some Super League opponents, especially for televised games. Commercial Director Rob Oates explained, “The new look third kit certainly stands out from the crowd and will probably divide opinion between Rhinos and Rugby League fans alike but we are pleased with the distinctive look.

“There are two main reasons why we have launched the new third kit. The first is a practical reason, viewers and broadcasters demand a bigger contrast in the kits of both teams especially for live televised games. And secondly, replica shirt sales are a key part of our business.

“We like to have a traditional design for our home kit wherever possible that predominantly features blue and amber. Those traditional colours rule out a number of colours for an alternative away shirt. The away shirt is a big part of our pre-Christmas income stream whilst we are in the close season and needs to appeal to as many supporters, young and old, as possible therefore the design can not be too outlandish. This season, our away shirt has proved hugely popular and has produced record breaking sales figures so suggests we have done a good job with our partners at Elite Pro Sports on both designs.

“Obviously, we have no control over the design or colours that the other clubs use. Twice in 2020, we were forced to wear our away kit at home which was less than ideal.  The third kit is very different; I don’t think there will be any complaints on social media that viewers can’t tell the teams apart this week! There is a limited number of replica shirts available and I think it will be a real collectors item for those fans who do love it. The boys have had a tough start to the season but we are backing them all the way to get things back on track, starting on Thursday night,” added Oates.

As well as a number of Super League games this season, the new third kit will be worn by the club’s Reserve Team throughout the 2022 campaign.

To mark the launch of the new look kit, Leeds Rhinos will be auctioning off Mikolaj Oledzki’s shirt after Thursday night’s game on Ebay with all proceeds going to the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal. Oledzki, who was born in Gdansk in Ukraine’s neighbouring country, Poland, will wear a Ukrainian flag on the front of his shirt for Thursday’s game as a show of support for all those impacted by the current crisis.

The shirt features on the front the Leeds Building Society logo as principal club partners plus Berry’s and Global alongside the Oxen logo. Southernsbroadstock and SMUK feature on the sleeves with NIC FM Services Group being joined by ACS on the back of the shirt.

The players shorts feature Axis, Boardrm and OXEN with Leeds Building Society whilst SMUK will feature on the players socks.

The adult shirts are sized S to 6XL with Ladies shirts available in sizes 8-18, both priced £49.99. Junior shirts are £39.99 in sizes age 6 to 14 with new toddler kits, age 0 to 4, priced at £39.99. Click here to buy now.
