Blue & Amber shows green credentials as fans snap up matchday programme

The new look edition of Blue & Amber, the Rhinos matchday magazine, proved as popular as ever on Saturday for the opening round of the new Betfred Super League season with the first edition selling out around the ground before kick off.

The lack of waste is just one way that the Rhinos are working hard to make sure the matchday programme lessens its environmental impact too.

The club are committed to producing a printed matchday programme for the 2022 season and believe the programme is an integral part of the matchday experience of thousands of fans. However, we also have to be mindful that a printed product does come at a cost, just not in terms of production but also the environment as well.

The new look 2022 Rhinos programme contains no elements that make it harder to recycle. By stapling it, rather than binding it with a spine, no harmful PUR glue is used, and by being a ‘self-cover’ programme, all of the pages are printed on the same paper stock with no lamination added to the front cover, meaning that can be recycled with the rest of the programme.

The Rhinos will continue their outstanding partnership with Ignition Sports Media in 2022 to design the programme. Ignition work with the printers, who purchase sustainably sourced FSC & PEFC certified papers along with those containing recycled content.

The paper used are also carbon-balanced via the World Land Trust, with all donations being put towards numerous conservation schemes they support plus our printers use paper and compostable magazine-wrappers, no longer the old style polythene wraps, with the delivery of your Rhinos programmes coming in an eco-friendly recycled paper wrap.

The printers use eco-friendly coating solutions and have two in-house baling plants to assist with the removal of waste paper. There is a lot more on the printers environmental waste strategy that you can read here too

Finally, once you have enjoyed your copy of Blue & Amber, you will be glad to hear that 100% of the programme can be recycled ready in time for the next edition.

We are looking to reduce waste too, both in terms of the energy needed to make and transport the programme and the printing process as well. 2022 members receive a digital copy of Blue & Amber in their inbox each game and we have reduced the number of programmes we order this year for our corporate areas whilst specifically targeting the amount of sales to the public hopefully creating more sell out editions this season than ever before. Fans are reminded to get their copy early on matchdays to avoid disappointment nearer kick off and we will monitor sales throughout the season to increase numbers for sale if demand dictates it.

Thank you for your continued support of Blue & Amber and we look forward to continuing to produce a matchday programme for many years to come.
