ON THIS DAY in 1890 Leeds played their first-ever game at Headingley. Much effort had been made to transform Lot 17a of the Cardigan estate but on the day of the match the stand was not ready.

The stand on the Burley End hadn’t been constructed and the banking round the sides was incomplete, but the game attracted a crowd that was estimated as one of the best ever for a sporting event in Leeds.

ON THIS DAY in 2002 Leeds took on Wigan in the final game of the regular season and secured a 32-26 win.

Nick Scruton made his debut in the game that saw Leeds come from 26-10 down to win the game and secure fourth place in the league. ON THIS DAY in 2003 Keith Senior, Mark Calderwood, Willie Poching and Rob Burrow all scored tries to help the Rhinos clinch a 28-12 win in their final home game of the regular season.

ON THIS DAY in 2013 Leeds Rhinos booked their place in the Grand Final Qualification game next weekend with an epic 11-10 win over St Helens at Headingley Carnegie.

Saints second rower Willie Manu’s second try of the match 10 minutes from the end cancelled out scores from Leeds centres Kallum Watkins and Joel Moon and tied the scores to set up a thrilling finish.

ON THIS DAY in 2014 Leeds Rhinos suffered a heart breaking 24-20 last second defeat to Catalan Dragons to end their 2014 season and crush their hopes of returning to Old Trafford.

Carl Ablett, Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Kallum Watkins all scored for the Rhinos, but Williams dived on a loose ball for Catalans in the final moments of the Despite claims for offside from the play the ball against Williams, the video referee allowed the try and Catalans had secured a famous victory.
