Top Three Super League Moments vs Huddersfield Giants

Leeds will complete three fixtures in eight days on Friday night when they take on local rivals Castleford Tigers at Emerald Headingley, kick off 7:45pm. Make sure you don’t miss the two sides clash by buying your tickets here.

Ahead of the match, here is a trip down memory lane with a look back at three of the top moments from previous Super League League clashes between the sides.

3. 2014 – Video referee decides Rhinos v Giants clash

Having lost their last three meetings with the Giants, Leeds’ clash with Huddersfield went down to the wire in 2014. Tries from Ben Jones-Bishop, Ryan Bailey, Kallum Watkins and Liam Sutcliffe had put the home side to within two points of the Giants and a frantic last play after the full time siren had sounded saw Joel Moon kick the ball across the field for Briscoe, who kicked it on towards the in goal area. In a foot race with Danny Brough, the winger looked to have beaten the half back to the ball, only for the video referee to chalk the try off, as Briscoe had illegally pushed Brough off the ball, and give Paul Anderson’s side the 24-22 win.

2. 1999 – Harris makes Leeds history

In 1999, Iestyn Harris produced a historic 42 point performance at Headingley to help Graham Murray’s side to an easy 86-6 victory over the struggling Giants. Besides the 13 goals he kicked, the half back added four tries that day to take his tally for the season to 15 and overtook legend Lewis Jones to become Leeds’ leading player to score the most points in a single game.

1. 2010 – Late drama sees Sinfield score winner

In 2010, a last second drop goal from Kevin Sinfield helped Leeds to a 21-20 result against league rivals Huddersfield. Both sides were battling for a place in the Play Offs and July’s meeting proved an entertaining one. Leeds wore a special charity shirt to help raise the awareness of the risks men face against cancer and featured a tribute to Leeds legend John Holmes, who lost his battle with cancer in 2009. Chris Clarkson’s try got Leeds off to the perfect start before future Rhino Shaun Lunt burrowed his way over the line. Two tries from Brett Hodgson extended the Giants’ lead further but a score from Ryan Hall and penalty from Sinfield levelled the scores up. Larne Patrick and Danny McGuire added further tries as the score stayed at a deadlock before Sinfield’s successful one-pointer gave Leeds the two league points.
