On this Day – 27th July

Leeds Courtney Hill (c) lifts the trophy after victory over Castleford.

ON THIS DAY in 1974 the Great Britain side were in Auckalnd for their first Test game against New Zealand. In the side that day was Leeds star Les Dyl, who had made his debut two games previous against Australia and in this match collected his 3rd cap. The Lions came into the game having lost the Ashes in Australia earlier in the month and it was the first meeting between the two sides since 1972 when Great Britain had won 53-19 in the World Cup. On this occasion though the British side were unable to claim another win and lost 8-13 in front of a 10,466 crowd.

In 2018, Leeds Rhinos lost 38-22 against Salford Red Devils at the AJ Bell Stadium as they brought their  regular season to a disappointing end against a 12-man Salford side.

ON THIS DAY in 2019, Leeds Rhinos Women retained the Coral Challenge Cup with a dramatic win against Castleford Tigers.

Castleford led when Rhiannion Marshall ran in at the corner, but Fran Goldthorp and 17-year-old Caitlin Beevers replied for Leeds.

Tamzin Renouf touched down under the posts for Cas to level at 10-10.

Courtney Hill ran in from 60 metres to give Leeds victory in stunning fashion just before the hour.
