Dwyer backs Hurrell for World Cup bid
Whilst Konrad Hurrell will be hoping to be part of Kristian Woolf’s plans for the Rugby League World Cup this Autumn with Tonga, his team mate Brad Dwyer has backed the centre to become a dual international with the country’s football team for the Qatar World Cup in 2022!
The much-loved combo of Koni and Dog made a brief return on the Rhinos social media channels to celebrate Hurrell winning May’s Northern Try of the Month award for his impressive solo try against Castleford Tigers in round 8.
Hurrell’s audacious chip and chase effort was one of 11 Leeds Rhinos tries during their 60-6 victory away at local rivals Castleford.
The Tongan international has scored two tries so far in 2021 and 23 career tries in Betfred Super League since arriving at the Rhinos in 2019.
Hurrell quickly became a fan favourite at Emerald Headingley and has made consecutive appearances in the Super League Dream Team over the past two seasons.
Each month fans have the chance to win a signed Betfred Super League shirt of their choice and an unlimited weekend travel pass on Northern services for up to four people, simply by entering their details and casting their vote for their favourite Northern Try of the Month here.
Dwyer joked, “We had word from the Tongan international football team that Koni has been called up to the squad for Qatar 2022 World Cup after his football skills in the try of the month against Cas.”
