Andy Hay on the charge against Halifax in 2000
ON THIS DAY in 1996 Leeds were on the road to take on Workington Town and in 2000 Keith Senior was the star man when the Rhinos hosted Halifax Blue Sox.
Leeds had been struggling to find regular form in this first year of Super League in 1996 and had managed just two wins over the season and were coming into this game on the back of three consecutive defeats. Workington too were having a difficult season, having been knocked out of the Challenge Cup in the first round and then losing their first five games of the League campaign, only managing to end this run with a draw against Halifax.
Prior to this fixture they had been heavily defeated 54-22 by Sheffield Eagles, 58-0 by London Broncos, 52-4 by Bradford and 64-16 by Wigan and in this game Leeds inflicted another big defeat. Graham Holroyd and Tony Kemp both scored two tries each and then Dean Clark, Marvin Golden Gary Mercer and Adrian Morley touched down for one apiece. Graham Holroyd added the rest of the points with 8 goals to bring the final score to 48-18. David Hulme made his debut for Leeds in this clash.
ON THIS DAY in 2000 Keith Senior was the star man again when the Rhinos hosted Halifax Blue Sox at Headingley. Leeds had won their last four games and with victory in this game made it five in a row. Karl Pratt and Paul Sterling both scored a try each and Iestyn Harris kicked 6 goals, but it was Keith Senior who was the stand out performer with the centre notching up 4 tries. Keith had scored his first try for the club against the same opposition earlier in the season when Leeds had lost 24-16 on that occasion and this was the first time he had ever scored more than one try in a game for the club. Halifax were able to score four tries but it was not enough and the Rhinos claimed their seventh win of the season with a 36-22 scoreline.
ON THIS DAY in 2006 Leeds took on Wigan at Headingley. The Rhinos came back from 12-0 down early in the first half to record a resounding 48-22 win over a Wigan side that then found themselves rooted to the bottom of the engage Super League.
